Pius Keller received a heart transplant in Switzerland almost five years ago. He arrived at GV Noosa one month ago after competing in the transplant games on the Gold Coast.

In August this year, Pius completed a 5km cycling race and a 20km ride. Although he found it challenging in the windy conditions, he completed both of his events. Celebrating his 54th birthday last week, Pius also completed a 4 week general English course here at GV Noosa.
Before he returns to his homeland, Pius will see some more of Australia, starting with Sydney and then Ayers Rock and Adelaide. His English has improved during his stay here and he hopes to use his new language skills during his travels.
Best wishes Pius from all the staff and students at GV Noosa

Bruno, Kiyo, Don and Garry were lucky enough to represent Global Village Noosa at this popular event held annually at Noosa Springs Golf Club.
Bruno Toledo had to earn his place in the team by winning both rounds of our putting competition held in the common room in recent weeks. He got to play on one of the best golf courses in Australia, and saw his first wild Kangaroos and even a Koala. Team GV did not win the event but a great time was had by all involved. Many thanks to Noosa Springs Golf Club and the Rotary Club for organising such a great day!

On sunny days like today, the courtyard is a great place to sit and relax, read over those papers again, or just catch up with classmates. It also offers some shelter from the strong winds we have been experiencing.

Remember to check local papers and the student notice board. Also have your resume and tax file number ready to go. If you need help with any of these things, just see Don at the activities desk, who is always happy to help.

“I thought I was dreaming when I got the Job”, Yu Jin told me this week.
Yi Jin is a graphic designer and thought he had no chance of working in Australia. Last week he went for an interview at ‘Wine Paradise’. “The interview was in English and I used everything I had learnt at GV Noosa”, he said. “Over one hundred people applied and ten attended the interview. When I was selectedI thought I was dreaming”.
Yu Jin starts next week designing lables for the wine bottles. Congratulations to Yu Jin and to his teachers for helping him prepare so well.

In response to student requests, a two week communication focused ‘Out and About’ course started this week. The course is designed to give lower level students the opportunity to practice grammar and vocabulary out in the ‘real world’.
The students meet each morning either in a local coffee shop or the student canteen area before heading out with their daily ‘task’.
For example, one task this week was to interview a travel agent and design an Australian holiday to present to the class in the afternoon. The students practiced the vocabulary and the grammar needed and then headed off to the pre arranged meetings.
That afternoon, they returned to class to give their presentations.
Stay in touch - more Out and About pictures will be posted soon!

Book a GV approved 2-day package and travel to beautiful Rainbow Beach.
Experience the famous coloured-sands and warm surfing waters. Spend a night at Pippies Beach House with a free breakfast. Then take the ferry to Tin Can Bay to hand-feed wild dolphins. You could even do some sea kayaking – look out for more dolphins, manta rays and turtles.
Ask at the activities desk for more information and to book your weekend away.

On Monday we welcomed 107 new students to our Cambridge classes with a BBQ at Noosa Woods.
The students had a busy morning being tested in all skill areas including an interview with a Cambridge teacher to discuss study goals before joining an FCE, CAE or CPE class.
The Students represent 11 different nationalities with the majority being European. The BBQ was a chance to get together and meet each other over a cold beer in traditional Australian style.
Although the course is intense and the students will have to study hard, there will also be plenty of time to have fun. Every Monday there is karaoke and a free BBQ at the Irish Pub. On Thursday nights there is a student party at the Koala Bar and everyone is encouraged to join the school soccer and basketball teams. (Yes, ladies that includes you too, in fact the soccer coach, Alisa is one of our CAE teachers).
Weekend trips to Fraser Island, the Gold Coast and Byron Bay are already being planned. We wish all the students a fantastic twelve weeks; it is great to have you all here in sunny Noosa.

A big congratulations from us here in Noosa to the Boa Lingua team who this week were awarded their third consecutive LTM award.

“I am honoured that we won for the third time in a row. This award reflects our strong and personal relationships to our partner schools – as Global Village in Brisbane, Noosa and Byron Bay – as well as our high quality standards in counselling our students. I dedicate this award to the whole Boa Lingua team”, says Kurt Krummenacher, Managing Director of Boa Lingua in Switzerland.
The annual award is presented by the well known «Language Travel Magazine». It is the most important award of the language travel industry. Nearly 700 people attended the event this year.
We’re very pleased for Boa Lingua to enjoy this well-earned win yet again!

The weather was perfect for our Noosa Show Day Beach Party on Friday.
The whole school met at the Sunshine Beach BBQ area. Whilst some students enjoyed playing beach sports, others prefered to stay in the shade and learn how to play the digeridoo.

Dennis Anjos is getting a little frustrated because he can’t find any competition on the Table Tennis table here at GV.
It’s not surprising considering that Dennis was Brazillian Table Tennis Champion for three years running (1998, 99 and 2000). In 1999 he went on to win the South American championship and in 2000 he won a tournament between Portugal, France , Italy and South America.
Dennis has extended an open invitation to anyone who thinks they can play to challenge him. Being a beer lover, Dennis would like to play you for a drink, but I would recommend just a single, not a six pack. Check the notice board and blog for shootout tournament times.

Dong Gi Kim joined us from Korea last week to study English and Surfing, and he is loving his time at Global Village. I took the opportunity to ask Dong Gi a few questions about his experience so far, and he was all smiles.
Q: What is the best part about studying here in Noosa?
A: The friendly people, great waves and beautiful weather.
Q: Have you tried surfing before you came here?
A: No, never. There are no surfing spots in Korea that I know of. The water is cold and often dirty. The beaches are not as nice as here.
Q: So, did you stand up in your first lesson?
A: Yes, I stood up on the board for about 5 seconds on my first day!
Q: And have you improved since then?
A: Yes, I have made it all the way to the beach a few times… it is so much fun. On my third lesson the conditions were fantastic, nice waves
Q: How would you rate your teachers here at GV?
A: Fantastic. They are friendly, helpful and patient with my limited English. They make learning fun.
Q: Have you made many new friends since you’ve been here?
A: Too many to count. I now have friends from all over the world. My list of friends on facebook is much longer than it used to be!
