Farewell Sebastian

February 8, 2010 · Leave a Comment

13-year-old Sebastian Stocker from Argentina was the smallest kid in school during his 5 weeks here at GV Noosa, and will be missed by all his friends and teachers.

Sebastian with his teacher, Debbie, after receiving his certificate

After learning to surf while he was here, Sebastian came out with a profound statement during class one day; “Life is better when you surf!” He is returning to Argentina with a new surfboard that he received for his birthday.

Meat Pies, Vegemite and Beer… So Aussie

January 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment

As a prelude to yesterday’s national holiday, students were introduced to some fair dinkum Australian activities. We started with a pie eating competition which included 4 party pies, a big spoon full of Vegemite and a can of beer to wash it down.

Congratulations to Sophie from Switzerland who downed the pies, beer and Vegemite in less than one minute

After the pie eating competition, we had a thong (flip flop) throwing competition. Congratulations to Mohammed from Saudi Arabia for being the most accurate and skillful thrower of thongs!!

It’s That Time of Year Again!

January 19, 2010 · Leave a Comment

From now through to the end of March it is typical for low pressure systems to develop in the Coral Sea off North Queensland. These systems can produce large swells and often develop into cyclones which produce even bigger waves.

This photo was taken at Noosa’s ‘Boiling Pot’ in early 2009 when cyclone Hamish was hanging around. When these conditions occur, Noosa National Park gets some of the best waves in the world. Lets keep our fingers crossed for another swell like this in the near future!

Cleaning up is good for English skills

November 27, 2009 · 1 Comment

A group of Japanese students decided that picking up rubbish along Gympie Terrace would be a good way to meet the locals and practice their language skills. Yoh Takashima organised a group of friends yesterday and spent a couple of hours tidying up along the Noosa River.

This was the third time this group has volunteered to clean up our beautiful town and their efforts are greatly appreciated by the community. If anyone would like to join the group for their next clean up on the 16th of December, talk to Yoh or Don at the activities desk.

November 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Summer is rapidly approaching.  Time to hit the gym!

Franks Gym (Noosa Fitness Centre) has very generously offered us a special promotional price exclusively for GV students.

GV students can buy a 12 week (3 month) membership for $149 (normal price is $349).  Franks is located about 2 minutes walk to the school, so there’s no better place to go for a work out.

Why not get a group together and get a regular afternoon exercise session going on?

You can check out the website at http://www.noosafitness.com/ , or better yet stroll down and have a talk to Corynne or Amanda.
