Corinne says ‘Aussie guys make impossible things possible’! The following photos say why:

Rafael gives Corinne a piggyback ride
Why did you choose to come to Australia?
I wanted to travel and needed to learn English. My friends recommended Australia as it has great weather and is an interesting country.
Why Global Village Noosa?
It was difficult to find a school that was wheelchair friendly, GV Noosa is. Also, I wanted a small friendly place on the beach as I love the sea.. Noosa has been perfect, the people are so friendly. After the first week I knew the shop people and the bus drivers and they always greeted me. Also I quickly made friends in the Koala Bar and Irish Pub. I wasn’t one of a thousand people.
Has your English improved?
The school is very cool. The teachers are good and it is easier to learn than in Switzerland. There were lot’s of jokes and games in the classroom.
Tell me about your excursions.
I really wanted to go to Fraser Island and the tour company said it was not wheelchair friendly and they couldn’t take me. Nadia, the student officer here made lots of phone calls and persuaded Trail Blazers to take me.It was just fantastic. Some of the students went with me and Rafael carried me on his back at times. Keith, the tour guide was wonderful and I had the best time.
What will you do now?
I am going to Sea World on the Gold Coast this weekend to swim with the dolphins. They have given me a special price. This is one of my dreams come true. Then I am going travelling for 6 weeks on my own. I will start on the Barrier Reef and then go inland but it is not all planned yet. I really have had the best time ever and I want to return again
Corinne, you are an inspiration to us all. Have a wonderful trip around Australia and come back to us again.

Michael Schanner would love to return to Noosa, this is what he says.

Dear All,
I am very happy to give you a response about my experiences in Noosa and especially at Global Village.
When I first came here I was wondering how it would be on the day when I had to leave Noosa and now I’m sitting here on the beach and thinking back over 3 months without a care in the world. I felt like a teenager and that was a really great feeling. Every day I got up at 8am, took my lovely prepared lunchbox from my host family and rode to school. On the way to school there are a lot of students walking on a path through a small forest and at this point I first realised the amount of multinational students who are all going to Global Village. Before I decided to do an English course in a foreign country I was looking for the best place in my opinion. I wanted to improve my surfing and my English as well and I decided there was no better place to combine these two things. Noosa is famous for its natural environment, pristine beaches and for a dramatic hinterland landscape.
Little did I know that I had chosen the right place to study. The teachers are very friendly and helpful all the time with any of your needs. The host families are well selected and very soon you will feel like a member of the family. The level of education, especially for CAE students is high however there was no point I felt lost or out of place. If there is a subject you need to improve you can get extra lessons in the afternoon. If there is a problem they will find a solution.
Now I am looking forward to going back home but on the other hand I am sure that I will miss Noosa, Global Village, Surfing, my Homestay Family and the feeling of being a teenager.
I want to thank you all for a great time and wish all present and future students good luck in reaching their personal goals. If I get the chance to come back I won’t hesitate, even for a second.
Maybe I’ll be back to see the sunset on another day …
Cheers!!
Michael

Our new (and very outgoing!) student Yuki surprised our teachers with his extreme artistic way of getting to know new students in the village.
Yuki is very approachable and wants to make new friends. If you see Yuki and the other 12 new faces among the students make yourself known and spend some time getting to know each other.
Global Village Noosa staff and students would like to welcome our newcomers and are very excited to have you onboard!

Victor wins by a long shot.

Yesterday the lads got together for a tee off in the common room. Five rounds were played against twelve competitors with a prize up for grabs. Even though Mishary was in pro form it was Victor who set the standards. With a score of Zero after five rounds, GV Golfers will need to spend less time playing ping-pong and more time on the common room golf course to win against the Victor Tyrant.
If we get enough interest we’ll be taking this out on the real course and for the amateurs, a game of putt-putt mini golf.

In recent weeks students who have chosen the cooking option class as an elective have been brewing up a storm!

The best part of all is tasting the end results. Here’s what some of our students had to say:
Erika: Mmmm… Swiss quality.
Gianna: The cooking class with Anne is every day funny.
Michele: I like to cook many different meals.
Pedro: It’s amazing learning different dishes from lots of countries.
Daniela: The cooking class is good because we can learn about the culture of other countries.
Chris: I think it’s very good!
Fahad: It was amazing.
Pedro: The best class!
Elly: Cooking class is the best option class.
Hoang: I like cooking class. Cooking is very good!
Maybe next time we get to decide whose kitchen rules?

Rafael and Liliane completed English language courses at GV Noosa in January 2008. They are both returning to study with us next week.

What did you do after leaving Noosa?
We travelled in Australia and Indonesia and then returned to Brazil.
What did you do in Brazil?
We both got great jobs. Liliane worked for an International Events agency. Raefael worked in a large hotel in the marketing and sales department. He sold everything from accommodation to meetings and events.
Did you need English for these jobs?
Oh yes, we would not have got these jobs without it. Having a good level and a recognised certificate from GV really helped.
Why are you back?
We love this part of the world and the lifestyle so much. We want to go to the University of the Sunshine Coast and the direct pathway from GV Noosa will help us to achieve this dream.
Thank you Rafael and Liliane, it is wonderful to have you back and I am sure you will both do well.

There was a lot of interest in the self-defence activity today, as almost 50 students jostled for space in the common room. Chris gave the group an introduction to Tae Kwon Do, concentrating on ways to escape an attack.
Special thanks to Dennis from Korea who is a black belt and assisted the group with learning some basic moves. Dennis was once a bodyguard for a famous Korean actor! Well done Dennis. We would also like to thank Hugo from Brazil for putting himself in harm’s way by allowing Chris to demonstrate on him.

Here at GV Noosa we like to mix it up a bit. With classes that include visits to the Cinema, guitar playing teachers and lessons in the sun-drenched courtyard, there is never a chance to get bored.

Teacher Mike Mooney strums his guitar while the class sings along to classics like "Proud Mary" and "Hey Jude"
Mike says that singing songs is a great way to break the monotony of long classes and also helps the process of remembering new words through repetition.

Here is a great example of the writing tasks our FCE students are doing.

Last Friday, I went to the cinema to watch Invictus with the FCE classes. It’s about Nelson Mandela’s life when he was just elected President of South Africa. And wanted to see his dream become a reality; black and white people who will be equal under the same flag.
At this time the rugby world vup took place in South Africa and rugby was still a sport for white people. Mandela used this opportunity to unify South Africans under the Spring Boke team, symbol of the apartheid.
He knew that if the spring Boke won all the country could be unified. He asked the Spring Boke captain to work with him to help him achieve this.
It was such a great movie with famous actors; Morgan Freeman (Mandela) and Matt Damon(Francois). It helpd to understand what happened in this country at this time and what Nelson Mandela had lived in prison.
Before watching the movie, we did some language activities about the movie and sang the movie’s theme song and read the poem ‘Invictus. In the afternoon, we discussed the movie and the different interpretation of it.
Thanks to my teacher, I watched a great movie, learned something about the history of South Africa and improved my understanding.
Finally, I want to share with you a part of the poem I really like, which helped Nelson Mandela incarceration in prison for 9000 days.
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul
I am the master of my fate
I am captain of my soul
Marc Kinder from FCE 2 Dionne

As a prelude to yesterday’s national holiday, students were introduced to some fair dinkum Australian activities. We started with a pie eating competition which included 4 party pies, a big spoon full of Vegemite and a can of beer to wash it down.

Congratulations to Sophie from Switzerland who downed the pies, beer and Vegemite in less than one minute
After the pie eating competition, we had a thong (flip flop) throwing competition. Congratulations to Mohammed from Saudi Arabia for being the most accurate and skillful thrower of thongs!!

Alvin’s Korean cooking demonstration for the Wednesday Activity spiced up everybody’s day.

Dionne’s FCE class made pancakes in class and there was plenty to go around. Reading and following simple recipes is a great way to learn English.
The pancakes with sugar and honey were delicious and all students and staff were able to have a sample. Hugo was the only one to burn his and almost started a fire in the classroom! He claims the frying pan was getting too hot even when the setting was on low.

Giving or listening to an oral presentation is a great way to improve your English, especially when laughter is involved.

Waleed Almarzoug certainly entertained teacher Sonia Russell and classmates Joelle and Lauren with his New Zealand holiday videos. Waleed and his wife were very brave and jumped from a 109 metre high cliff edge, freefalling 60 metres from a vertical cliff face on an elastic swing.
The girls are obviously enjoying watching Waleed and his wife flying through the air!

What better way to celebrate the end of classes than a good old Aussie Barbeque.
Lions park would have to be the best venue for a large BBQ in Noosa. The nice new grass was great for volleyball and a strange Brazilian version of cricket. Good luck in your exams today and tomorrow!

English and Surfing student, Nicolas Brengard saw an elderly lady caught in a rip last week so he paddled over and helped her to safety. The lady was extremely grateful for Nicolas’ quick actions and later gave him a gift to show her appreciation.

Nicolas trims accross a nice little left
Just another example of how important it is to swim between the flags. Even when the surf looks small, there can still be dangerous rips and currents.
